Are You A Candidate?

Do you suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism? Are you tired of using your glasses or contacts? If your answer is “yes” to both of those questions, you may be a good candidate for the LASIK procedure. However, there are some qualifications you must meet before your eligibility is confirmed. LASIK surgery is only effective when the eye is fully developed and vision is consistent.

Therefore, in order to be considered for this surgery, you must:

  • Be at least 22 years old
  • Have a stable, unchanging prescription for either eyeglasses or contact lenses

In order to make a fully informed decision about LASIK, you should be aware of other factors that may affect your candidacy for the procedure:

  • You are in good overall health.
  • You do not have uncontrolled diabetes, autoimmune or vascular diseases, or take any medication that could compromise the immune response.
  • You are free from eye and other retinal and optic nerve diseases, in addition to residual or active eye conditions, such as dry eye.
  • You are free of eye infections or injuries.
  • You are not pregnant or nursing.
  • Your vision does not worsen or improve from one year prior to the procedure.
  • You are willing to avoid wearing contact lenses for a period of time before your surgery.

For most of our patients, everyday tasks are possible without eyeglasses or contacts following the procedure. However, it is possible that glasses may still be necessary for reading fine print or distance activities. To achieve satisfaction with your results, it is best to think of refractive surgery as a way to reduce dependency on visual aids, not as a way to completely eliminate the need.

While the lasers used during the LASIK procedure are highly precise, patients can have varied visual results after their procedure. This can result from differences in the degree of refractive error corrected, or in the individual healing process. At Better Vision New Jersey, we want to bring you the best results possible to improve your vision, and your life. So book your appointment with us today, and let’s work together to give you the best vision possible!

  • James O’Gorman
I had cataracts and after Dr. Calderone operated on my eyes, my vision is now 20/20. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It’s a tremendously well-equipped practice in terms of the technology that’s used to take care of your eyes and the technical staff is also superb.

  • Sherry Villa
I have been a patient of Dr. Calderone’s for more than I can remember and I have always found the physicians and entire staff to be professional, caring and thorough in everything they do. All the physicians spend quality time with each patient to hear about their concerns or answer questions. I personally would highly recommend him to family and friends.

  • Mary Hannibal
I had originally gone to the practice for floaters in my eye and discovered that I had cataracts. I found everyone at Better Vision New Jersey—from the physicians to the staff—to be extremely kind and caring. I was very impressed with the quality of care I received and how well they not only treated me, but also my husband. Their facilities are state-of-the-art and they are absolute experts in their field.
